I have a deep fondness for the Texas Hill Country because it encapsulates the essence of Texas within its lush landscapes. Living in West Texas, there is the unmistakable Texan atmosphere, but with rather barren surroundings.
However, venturing into the Hill Country reveals a blend of natural splendor and authentic Texan charm. Which is why we love it! Especially the small Hill Country towns like Wimberley, Texas. Exploring Wimberley, Texas has truly encapsulated both picturesque beauty and the true essence of Texas.
Driving through Wimberley is like driving through a Texas vibe! There are painted boots scattered around town, the shops look like old wooden shacks, and the through the shop windows are trinkets and knickknacks that will remind you of items from a John Wayne movie. This town has so much to offer and is full of experiences you won’t want to miss.

Have Ice Cream in an Old West Town
I cannot claim that Wimberley has a Texas vibe if it didn’t have some form of the old west in it. Wimberley doesn’t just have an old west vibe, it literally has an old western town! Pioneer Town is a tiny old west town that is free for the public to walk around.
In this enchanting little village you can find a house made entirely of glass bottles, the cowboy museum, a horse statue to sit on, and carriages to play in. It is almost like a replica museum of the old west era. It was fun to walk around the old buildings, but our favorite was to stop by the old time ice cream parlor.
Walk into a room of black and white checkered floors, an old pump organ, and of course ice cream! There is no better treat in the intense Texas heat than ice cream!

Sit on the Giant Jackelope At The Cowboy Museum
Everyone who ever thought Texas, has thought of cowboys. Texas is well known for its country vibes with its longhorn cattle and western cattlemen to herd them. To commemorate the history of the Texas cowboy and pretty much all things Texas, Wimberley has its very own cowboy museum.
This museum is more of an antique museum with collections of western art work, saddles, blacksmith tools, horseshoes, spurs, chaps, farming equipment, and so many other old trinkets. I, myself, am not super interested in looking at old artifacts with my kids. Not exactly a fun activity with little ones, but this museum did have something that my kids LOVED!
As you walk through the door into the museum there is a giant jackelope! This jackelope is taller than me and of course its antlers made it even taller. For a dollar you can climb up on the saddle and take a picture. Talk about the perfect Texas picture!
Location: 333 Wayside Dr, Wimberley, TX 78676
Admission: $1 for a picture with the Jackelope
