Cadillac Ranch is one of the quirkiest roadside attractions in West Texas.
One of the quirky roadside attractions in West Texas is Cadillac Ranch.

One of Amarillo’s greatest icons is a ranch. Now that doesn’t sound too quirky, but this isn’t a ranch of cattle or horses or a farm covered in crops ready for harvest. This ranch is a roundup of old Cadillac cars half buried in the dirt and decorated with generations of graffiti. Now that sounds quirky!

Cadillac Ranch has become an icon of Amarillo and is a stop you will not want to miss. Be sure to bring a couple cans of spray paint to add your work of art to these historical automobiles.

Back in 1930, the caveman Ally Oop and his dinosaur Dinny were the were beloved comic strip characters. Today in the tiny, middle of nowhere town of Iraan, these characters are still standing. I mean literally there is a giant dinosaur with a step stool next to his neck waiting for someone to jump on.

This roadside West Texas gem is a small park with multiple photo ops as you interact with scenes and characters of this timeless comic.

West Texas in general kinda feels like a ghost town. It is old and full of broken down buildings in almost every town. One of those towns is Pyote, Texas. You probably won’t even realize you have driven through the town it is so small.

It may not be a ghost town, but it has a ghost bomber base! During World War 2 this base was used as a training facility for the armies bombers. What once was bombing with army activity stands still and forlorn now. While you can’t actually walk through the base, you can stop at the historic marker for a view of it.
